University and College Diversity Offices
At the University and College levels, responsibility for our diversity programs is shared by several offices:
- The University Diversity Council, which is co-chaired by the President and the Provost, meets monthly to set policy and coordinate across programs.
- The Office of the Dean of Students affirms and supports the variety of identities and interests that Cornell students present by sponsoring clubs, events, peer to peer interactions, and other activities that enhance students' well-being and celebrate their differences whether they be cultural, religious, sexual preference, or gender identity. Through many opportunities for student involvement, the Office fosters the concept that individual identities and experiences are respected and that the unique contribution of each Cornell student is valued.
- The Office of Workforce Diversity, Equity and Life Quality provides leadership in the areas of equal opportunity, affirmative action, diversity, and the "balance" between work and personal life. The office serves as a liaison to local community organizations that address the employment interests of individuals from traditionally underrepresented groups.
- The Vice Provost for Equity and Inclusion oversees efforts to maintain an academic environment that embraces differences; enhances diversity of the administration, faculty and students; and ensures that members of the Cornell community have access to the knowledge and analytical skills needed to think critically about and appreciate human diversity.
